Updated Tumblr Blog page...a fresh start.

A fresh start and a new look for tumblr...also with new intentions. My aim is post almost daily, any illustration I do, getting feedback and a feel my illustrations. Through posting everyday I myself can keep track of the progress I'm making and go back to elements of things which worked and things which didn't.

Ideas:

Below are just some ramblings of ideas and notes I've been taking for image and brooch ideas...

- Influenced by Leanne Shapton's zine about 'Ex-girlfriends', want to create a narrative/zine with a similar idea.

- Interested in 'The Woman', brainstorm what I think when I think of women.

- Scanning found photos and taking 'old' worn textures from them. Put to the object of OLD and YOUNG. Think of other words for young and old. 'In one's salad days'/ 'Emerging' ....Antique Vintage-Contemporary

- The journey from young to old. Interest in New to Old - Objects and phrases connoting 'old'.

YOUNG: Drinking (Although this wasn't this way a few years ago...social attitudes have now changed).
OLD: Bingo

- Like Tina Berning - I could take old photos of women and producing narratives surrounding them and also old adverts I see.

- Woman pencil body. 'Shaping ourselves' - 'Fixing ourselves' - 'Female Fixes' (EYES)

- 'Survival of the FITTEST' - Loadsa HOT girlsss painted.

- 'Survival of the HIPPIST'

'Soul Shaping'

- Stories/narratives already exsisting which connote ugly as bad: The Ugly Duckling

- Silouette of OLD face and YOUNG face 'FACE OFF' .....'Leading Edge'

- Repeat of vintage mirrors with type over the top. Questioning Looking at yourself. 'You're only as young as you feel'

Mirror mirror on the wall: identify my imperfections

- Image on 'defining beauty' - Different breeds of things. 'zine'

Rob Ryan Lecture.

Oh my!
Today I was lucky enough to get a seat in the Rob Ryan Lecture at the college! It was brilliant from start to finish, such a lovely man. Below are most of the notes I took, I couldn't stop writing! One thing which struck me and made me think about myself a lot was when he spoke about how he used to be very shy and it doesn't work if you want to be successful...'I wasted a lot of time through being shy'. Also the way he comes up with his ideas and the little notebook he always carries around, noting and drawing ideas, really roughly, which then develop.

Collecting!

Been visiting Huddersfield market, mostly Tuesdays' when I can get there, as Tuesday seems to be the first day that the market holders come and sell what they've collected over the week for the first time - Saturday isn't as good (all the left overs). I was lucky enough to get chatting to a guy and he showed me scrap books he'd come across, for £3 I bought one, which had lots of women and men from the 1930's. The most beautiful things I've ever seen!

Find below gems of inspiration and beautiful beautiful images :)
Feast your eyes on this!! ...and this is only a few pages!

Notes on the film: Blue Velvet

I watched Blue Velvet today, it is re-known for the voyeuristic nature portrayed within it and I took notes whilst I watched it...this is what I found/observed, concentrating on women being objectified within film and in society. It's made me think more about a woman's role within socity, will she always be the 'weaker' sex and not hold as much power. Will she always be allowed to be viewed and 'gazed' at in this way? Below are the notes I took:
